Do I Need a Visa for Vietnam? Visa-Free Countries Explained
2026-10-28 · 本指南提供英文版本。
Vietnam has expanded its visa exemption program over the last few years. Before you pay for anything, check whether you need a visa at all.
Who can enter visa-free?
Citizens of a number of countries can enter Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days, including:
- Europe: United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and several others
- Asia: Japan, South Korea
- ASEAN countries: usually 14–30 days depending on the country (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and others)
The list changes from time to time, and some exemptions are temporary. Check the latest list before you travel.
Who needs an e-visa?
- Citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, China and most other countries.
- Exempt travelers who want to stay longer than the visa-free period.
- Exempt travelers who will leave Vietnam and come back (for example a side trip to Cambodia) — a multiple-entry e-visa avoids problems.
- Anyone traveling on a different passport than the one on the exemption list.
Visa-free vs. e-visa
| Visa-free | E-visa | |
|---|---|---|
| Max stay | Up to 45 days (varies) | Up to 90 days |
| Re-entry | New exemption period, subject to rules | Multiple-entry option |
| Cost | Free | Government fee + service fee if using an agency |
| Extendable | Limited | Up to 90 days total |
