Vietnam's electronic visa (e-visa) lets travelers of every nationality stay for up to 90 days, with single or multiple entry. Applying is done online, but small mistakes are the number one reason for delays and rejections. Use this checklist before you start.
1. A passport with enough validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date and have at least one blank page. If it expires sooner, renew it first — the application will be rejected.
2. A clear photo of your passport data page
- The whole page must be visible, including the two lines of machine-readable code at the bottom.
- No glare, no fingers covering text, no cropping.
- JPG or PNG works best. A phone photo is fine if it's sharp and taken in daylight.
3. A recent portrait photo
- Facing the camera, eyes open, neutral expression.
- White or light background, no shadows.
- No glasses, no hat (religious headwear is acceptable if the face is fully visible).
Tip: a selfie against a white wall usually works — just hold the phone at eye level, about an arm's length away.
4. Your travel details

5. Common reasons for rejection
- Name spelled differently from the passport (missing middle name, swapped order).
- Blurry or cropped passport scan.
- Portrait with glasses or a busy background.
- Wrong date of birth or passport number — one digit is enough.
- Passport valid for less than 6 months.
How long does it take?
The official processing time is around 3 working days, but it can take longer in peak seasons. If you're traveling soon, an express or emergency service prepares and follows up on your application so it gets approved in time.
